Waterpolo

Approximately 120 boys from Grade 4 – 7 play waterpolo at SACS Junior, with at least 3 teams swimming in each age group.  Splash polo for the u10’s was introduced in 2010 and as several of our traditional polo rivals do the same, it seems certain that the sport will only grow in years to come.  Competition for places in our u13A team is fierce as boys as young as eleven, if good enough, can be selected.  As a result, this team has been very successful and continues to work harder each year to maintain the high standards set.  While our u13As set the pace, each team and each age group has specific goals that they aim to achieve by the end of each season.  This ensures a managed progression of skill development and allows coaches to deal with more difficult skill sets appropriately.

While we enjoy the dedicated and expert input of some vastly experienced and passionate coaches, SACS waterpolo coaches at every level are taken through a basic coaching course and empowered with the knowledge necessary to ensure that the boys learn sound basics and understand the game well.  In 2008 we introduced two players’ handbooks on the SACS Waterpolo website so that all boys have direct access to training, technical and tactical information.

SACS Waterpolo enjoys the use of no less than three state-of-the-art swimming pools for boys to play and train in.  These facilities cater for polo at all levels, from Splash players right through to FINA regulation ladies’ and men’s waterpolo events.

SACS Junior participates in a number of local and national tournaments throughout the year and is a proud host of South Africa’s largest junior waterpolo tournament.
The following tournaments take place during the course of the year:

February:  Reddam Action Polo tournament
March:  Grey PE Tour
March:  Slabber Cup – Inter Schools Playoffs / Final
