Academics
At SACS Junior School, we strive towards the highest standards in our academic endeavours.
We are a Thinking School accredited by the Cognitive Education Centre at the University of Exeter. Our approach to education is to facilitate learning by teaching critical thinking skills, creativity, problem-solving, metacognition, collaboration, and communication, whilst promoting cultural awareness and social responsibility.
Digital literacy forms an integral part of our curriculum with IT Integration embedded in all the core subjects. Our Francois Nel Innovation Centre is the heart of research and learning in our school. This centre consists of two Apple Mac Labs – one Coding and Robotics Lab, and another for teachers to book IT Integration lessons. To further enhance our IT Integration, we have six banks of iPads which are used in the classrooms. Our Library is stocked with over 9500 books from a variety of genres for our boys to read for enjoyment and to use for research purposes.
We follow the CAPS Curriculum while continuously extending our learners’ capabilities. Formal assessments occur throughout the year, with examinations for Grades 4-7 written in Terms 2 and 4. Reports are sent home via email each term and face-to-face feedback meetings are available to parents throughout the academic year.
Our Education Support Unit works closely with our teachers to provide academic learning support to our boys who need it, thereby creating inclusive learning opportunities in our mainstream learning environment.
