Grade N and Grade R

SACS Grade N is where the joy of learning begins. It is a stimulating, resourceful place to play and learn. Our classes are small and the educators are focused on the development of the whole child. Every learning experience is designed to engage our boys intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally. Our learning space is informal, to encourage our boys to learn through concrete experiences and interactive play. All the activities that our boys participate in are educational, intentional and planned by the educators to allow for exploration, self-discovery and learning about the world we live in.
Our daily programme is designed to balance learning with familiar routines, music, fantasy play, movement and creative activities. This allows for language development, opportunities to make friends and it provides our boys with the necessary skills in preparation for the demands of a more structured, teacher-directed school day in Grade R.
A Grade N boy is eager to learn, especially when he is actively involved in doing, thinking and discovering. He has a developing independence, but he also needs guidance and encouragement so that he can explore, grow in confidence and develop his potential at his own pace. At SACS our Grade N’s are nurtured, supported and valued.

- Grade N has three classes of 20 boys for the age group of 4 to 5 years.

Our focus at SACS Grade R is to develop responsible, independent and confident boys. We are committed to preparing our boys for a smooth transition from an informal child-centred learning space to a more structured day in Grade One.
Grade R bridges the gap between Grade N and Grade One by offering a balance of daily activities which focus on consistent routines, more formal creative activities, supervised play and active engagement in Literacy, Numeracy and Life Skills tasks. Language development is a key area of learning in Grade R. Our boys learn best through experiences, by making decisions, completing tasks and working independently.
Grade R is a busy and interactive learning environment. Our teachers are always observing, encouraging and supporting our boys. The boys know that making mistakes is also part of learning.
Our daily programme is designed to promote cognitive, physical, social, emotional and creative development. Our school day contains many opportunities for collaboration and group work. Our boys aim high, enjoy being challenged and never give up!
Our Grade R is a happy place, where our boys develop a love of learning and begin to feel part of the greater SACS community.

- There are four Grade R classes with 26 boys in each class
- Grade R hours are 08h00 to 12h30 (Monday to Thursday)
- Friday 08h00- 12h15
- Boys are welcome to arrive between 07h30 and 08h00
- Grade R applications must be submitted via the WCED portal when it opens
